Craft Time

Over the last few weeks I've done a couple of crafts with the kids that I found on Pinterest (seriously, if you are not on this site, you are missing out!)  Both these activities have been pinned onto my 'Pinned it, Tried it' board (if you're not following me yet, just click the link on the top right of my blog to follow me on Pinterest!)

The first thing I did was make heart shaped crayons with Jaidan.  This was a trial run, to see how well it worked and how they turned out.  We'll be doing some more for Jaidan to use as Valentine's this year at school.

We had a zip lock baggy with old broken crayons in it that we used (I gave Riley and Aislinn each an old wipes container and put brand new crayons in each container for them, this way they each had their own crayon's and there was no more fighting over crayons!).  First we had to cut up all the old crayons, this was very time consuming...I also should have probably used my wooden or plastic cutting board, not my porous poly cutting boards (lesson learned!)

Once we had enough cut up, we had to fill the trays.  I bought some silicone heart shaped trays at Target in their dollar bins for $3.

Then, we popped them in the oven.  The pin said 230* for 15 mins, but I had to leave them in for 30 mins.

I did stir them with a toothpick at the 15 min mark.  I stirred them again with the toothpick when I took them out.  I put them on a rack to cool (I used my slow cooker's rack).

Normally, I link back to the blog post I followed with my pin.  But in this instance I also used google and read I think 2 different blog posts, their comments, and a forum's post with comments.  So, I kind of read what a bunch other people did and what did or didn't work for them and came up with my own method.  You can find the original pin I used tho on my pinterest board.

Next up, I decided to try the soap cloud with Riley!  Jaidan came in and watched while it was in the microwave.  I had never done this before and was able to get a 3 pack of Ivory soap for $.25, so I decided to do this....Ok, I bought the soap with the intent to do this project LOL.

It's very important that you use Ivory soap, I can't tell you why, but that is what the blog said (supposedly you get a burned mess with other brands)

This is so easy to do.  You just put the soap on some wax, or parchment paper (NOT foil, seriously folks, we don't want any fires!), turn on the microwave and watch it grow!  I set my timer for 4 mins, but we took it out at 2 mins.  It had really slowed down with the growing (couldn't even tell if it was moving anymore), so we did a big huge count down together for the last 10 seconds and took it out at the 2 min mark.

Riley thought it was super cool.....until it came out of the microwave, then he didn't want to hold it LOL.

If you want to see the original blog post you can do so here.  We still have our 'cloud' so I am thinking about letting the kids make colored soaps like she did in her blog post.

Have you done any Crafty fun things lately?

Crock Pot Chicken Tacos

Ok, so I got this great recipe off of Pinterest last year at some point.  It is SO easy, only 3 ingredients!  Plus, it's a dump and go recipe!  Those are some of my favorites.  We have made these several times.  I got the original recipe from here.

Ingredients:

  • 6 boneless skinless chicken breasts (can be frozen)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 16oz jar Salsa (we usually use pace picante, I have used both medium and mild)

Directions:

1.  Place chicken in crock pot, sprinkle packet of taco seasoning over the chicken, dump the salsa on top.

2.  Cook on low for 4-6 hours.
3.  Remove chicken from crock pot and shred. (At this point you can serve it if you want to, but I like to put it back in the pot)

4.  Stir and cook a few minutes longer, so the chicken can absorb some of the sauce.

5.  Serve and enjoy.

You can add whatever you want to your tacos.  We used sour cream, onions (hubby), black olives, tomatoes, lettuce, and cheese.

Weekly update, Week 4

Week 4!!  To be honest, I would have had nothing at all bought this week, except I had +UPs at Rite Aid that expired tonight, so I had to burn them or lose them!  Between being in Vegas, and then recovering from my trip, I didn't do anything this week.  But that is fine, because we are able to live off our stockpile and not run out to buy stuff all the time!

So, this week I spent $1.49 ($2.27 after tax) and saved $23.47 a savings of 94.03%.

I didn't use any coupons on the Finish....if I'd had extra's to use on them I would have had to find another $3 worth of stuff to buy LOL, so I still think I did pretty darn good!

Weekly Update, Week 3

Sorry this update is late!  I was very, very sick most of that week, and then I headed to Vegas for the weekend with my Mom!  But I am now home, and feeling much better.  So today I sat down and found my few receipts so I could do this post.  I only made 2 shopping trips that week, and 1 of them my hubby did, because I was too sick to go, but my coupons were expiring that day!  Isn't he great?

So, for this week I spent $21.37 ($27.47 with tax) and saved $101.99 a savings of 82.68%!  I stocked up on Pull Ups with a great coupon and a good deal at CVS!

Since I only had 2 trips, I only have a picture of the 1st trip, since I wasn't going to make hubby take a picture of what he bought too LOL.

Weekly update, Week 2

Another week has gone by, time for my update.  I spent more money this week (but also saved more).  I always spend a lot when Harris Teeter has their Super Doubles, but I also stocked up on some different meats, which we sorely needed.  But, that's ok, because I still had over a 70% savings!  That is all money in our pocket for other things.

Here we go, I spent $151.15 ($163.98 after tax), and I saved $401.19, a savings of $72.63%.  Here are a few pictures.

Well, there you have it!  So far I have saved over $700 this month!  Happy Savings!!

Weekly update, Week 1

Sorry I am 2 days late for my first weekly update, but I needed to tweak my excel spreadsheet that my hubby built for me to use.  That's right, my hubby is so amazing he  made an excel spreadsheet with all the breakdowns that I wanted, and even set it up to give me weekly, monthly, and annual totals!!

So, for week 1, I spent $62.04 ($69.98 after tax) and I saved $307.71 an average savings of 83.22%! I didn't take pictures of everything that I bought, but I will share a few pictures with you. (every week I will share some of the pictures with you, but not all.)

*did a small edit to update my numbers, I found some missing receipts that I had to add in.

Insane in the membrane

Insane in the membrane, Insane in the brain...I can't help but think of that song when I think of Insanity by Beach Body.  You may be asking, what exactly IS Insanity?  It's a 60 day DVD workout program that is put out by Beach Body (they also do Slim in 6 and P90X, I am sure you have probably heard of one of those before).  I got it for Christmas, per my request.  This is the work out program I plan on completing this year.

If you take before and after pictures and submit them at the end of the program they give you a T-shirt.  One of my goals (and new years resolutions) is to earn that T-shirt.  the ONLY way to get it is to earn it and submit your pictures.  I'd like to lose 21-31 pounds over all, so this will be a huge help, plus it will help me build some muscles.

Today I did my first fit test.  You do a fit test before you start and then every 2 weeks during the program.  I can't wait to see my numbers go up!  Let me tell you, the fit test alone kicked my booty!  There are 8 exercises in total and I puked between numbers 6 and 7!  Talk about crazy!

I am excited to do the program and to see my results at the end of it!  Maybe I'll even post an after picture (tho I doubt you will be lucky enough to see the before picture).  Bring on the pain (but please, no more puking!)

2013 150+ Book Challenge

Ok, I know I didn't reach 150 books last year, I only got to 63, BUT that was better then the year before!  The challenge does just that, it challenges me, and it makes me read more, so I am doing it again.

So, once again this year I am joining in the 150+ book reading challenge sponsored by My Overstuffed Bookshelf.
