Germination!!

We have germination in my greenhouse!!  Yay!  Some of the stuff popped up so quickly, like the kale, spinach, and wax beans!  Some of the herbs have too, but they are still itty bitty, but I have to transplant the veggies already.

The kale and spinach are almost touching the top of the greenhouse already, it's crazy how quickly they jumped up once they germinated.  The wax beans are doing great too, but my initial concern about how well they would do in the greenhouse was right.  the space is way too small for them.

We went to Lowe's tonight to get the wood for my raised garden bed, so I also bought some windowsill  planters to transplant them into.  I got 1 for each the wax beans, spinach and kale.  With the beans I only planted 6, 1 in each space, so they will take up 1 planter with some decent spacing for each plant.  The Kale I planted 12, and all 12 have already sprouted, so that was why I got it it's own.  Not all 12 of the spinach have sprouted yet, but they may down the road.

Tomorrow I will work on transplanting the veggies.  I'll post pictures once I am done.  I also checked out the prices on some cinder blocks, I think I am going to use them to do the raised bed for my herbs, because I want a separate herb garden and veggie garden.  I'll buy those next weekend or the weekend after and set that all up.

You can see lots of little sprouts, this picture was from yesterday.

So excited to watch it all grow!

Indoor Greenhouse Planting

Yesterday I started everything that I wanted to grow from seeds in a greenhouse planter in my living room.  It's on the same table as the kids Strawberry plants in front of a window with the blinds open.  I have mostly herbs in it with a few veggies.  Everything else I plan to plant will be from plants I buy.

Filling them with soil, seeds in the background with my labeled popsicle sticks.

All watered and planted with their labels.  The top and bottom half are the same, but wanted to label both to be safe, so there are 12 different things planted.

Top on, ready to grow!

I planted 8 different herbs; Mint, Sage, Cilantro, Basil, Thyme, Rosemary, Marjoram, and Oregano.

I also planted 4 different veggies; Carrots, Wax Beans, Spinach, and Kale (YUM!!!).  I'm not sure how well the carrots or wax beans will go growing in the greenhouse, or how they will do with transplanting, but if all else fails I have extra seeds I can plant into the ground in the Spring when it is warmer out.

I plan to also get, already started as plants, Broccoli, Heirloom Tomatoes, Watermelon, Banana Peppers (for the hubby), and Sweet Corn.  I might try some Cauliflower too.  I also plan to grow Onions and Potatoes too.

I can't wait to get my garden going!!!  Are you planting a garden this year?

Strawberries!!

Last Weds the kids and I planted some strawberry seeds…well, actually some is an understatement, I think we planted about 75-100 seeds between the 4 kids LOL.  But I know not nearly that many will actually germane and grow into plants.

I found these Strawberry planter kits at Big Lots for $3 each, comes with the pot, soil, and the seeds, all we had to do was add water.  So of course I grabbed one for each kid, and they all happily planted seeds, even my teenager :)

I know it's a lot of pictures to look at, but I had to take pictures of all the kids!  I hope you like them :)

She did her own soil.

Lots of seeds!

Austin's turn!

Lots of seeds to plant!

He did his own soil too.

All done!

Ta Da!!!  4 pots of Strawberry seeds!

We are 1 week in now.  I have read mixed reviews.  1 person said it takes 21 days for the seeds to germinate, and someone else said 6-8 weeks!  Crazy!  So I guess we will just keep watering (well, more like misting to keep the soil damp) and see what happens!  Hopefully we will see something in the next 2 weeks or so!

Are you growing anything this year?  Just plants or are you starting anything from seed?
